Email marketing shortlist

Best free email marketing tools for freelancers

The best free tool depends on the job: Kit for a creator newsletter, Brevo for contact capacity and limited automation, or Mailchimp for a small trial of its broader marketing workflow.

The shortlist

Do not choose from the largest headline number alone. Compare the limit you will hit first: subscribers, daily sends, monthly sends, or automation.

BrevoUp to 100,000 contacts300 sends per dayDaily sending limit

Choose Kit for a creator newsletter

Kit Free supports unlimited forms, landing pages, and broadcasts for up to 10,000 subscribers. Tags and segments help organize one audience. It is the clearest starting point when your main job is collecting subscribers and publishing useful emails.

The important limitation is automation depth. Email sequences, automation rules, and the full visual automation system require a paid plan. Start with broadcasts and one signup path before paying for convenience.

Choose Brevo for contact capacity

Brevo Free stores up to 100,000 contacts and permits automation for up to 2,000 unique contacts. It can suit a freelancer testing marketing and transactional workflows together.

Its 300-send daily cap matters more than the storage number. A large database cannot receive one same-day campaign on the free allowance.

Choose Mailchimp for a controlled product trial

Mailchimp Free currently supports 250 contacts, 500 sends per month, and 250 sends per day. It includes one audience, one Owner seat, basic reporting, and access to basic forms and landing-page workflows. Use it when you specifically need to evaluate Mailchimp rather than when you want the largest free allowance.

A practical decision rule

Test before moving your whole list

  1. Define one signup and email-delivery job.
  2. Create a small permission-based test list.
  3. Build the form, confirmation step, and first message.
  4. Test on mobile with two addresses.
  5. Verify unsubscribe and contact export.
  6. Record which required steps are paid.
  7. Choose the simplest tool that completes the job.
