Email marketing workflow
Email marketing launch checklist for freelancers
Test the complete subscriber journey before you promote your list. A small, reliable path is more valuable than a complicated automation that has never been tested.

The short answer
Define one promise, publish one signup path, deliver one useful message, and test consent, unsubscribe, replies, and mobile display. Launch only when a new subscriber can complete the entire path without manual repair or a paid upgrade.

Use the text file in any notes, document, or task app. No account or email address is required.
Download the launch checklist1. Define the job before choosing features
Write one sentence that describes what the email system must do. For example: “A prospective client downloads the checklist, receives it immediately, and gets one useful email each week.” This keeps tool selection tied to a real workflow.
- Define the intended reader.
- State what they will receive and how often.
- Choose one primary signup offer.
- Choose one success event: a signup, reply, click, or booking.
2. Build one clear signup path
Use a focused landing page or form. The page should explain the benefit, set the frequency expectation, and link to your privacy information. Ask only for information you will use.
If you are using Kit, follow the Kit lead magnet landing page guide. If you are still choosing a platform, compare the best free email marketing tools for freelancers.
3. Deliver exactly what you promised
Check the sender name, reply-to address, subject line, preview text, resource link, and next step. A subscriber should understand who sent the email and why they received it.
- Submit the live form with a test address.
- Complete any confirmation step.
- Open the first email on desktop and mobile.
- Download or open the promised resource.
- Reply and confirm the message reaches a monitored inbox.
4. Test trust and exit paths
A working signup is only half of the workflow. Test the unsubscribe link and confirm that the contact is removed or suppressed as expected. Keep a record of where each contact opted in, and do not import people who did not request the messages.
5. Verify the free workflow
Complete the entire path using the free plan before promoting it. Record any step that asks for an upgrade. If a paid feature is convenient but unnecessary, use a broadcast or manual step until the list produces enough value to justify the cost.
6. Measure a few useful signals
Start with subscriber growth, successful delivery, clicks, replies, and unsubscribes. These signals show whether the promise is clear and the emails are useful. Change one element at a time so the result remains understandable.
A simple launch decision
Launch when the full path works on mobile, the promised resource arrives, replies reach you, unsubscribe works, and the workflow stays within your chosen free plan. Then share the signup page in one relevant place and watch the first few subscribers move through it.
